The American Red Cross needs to be prepared to respond to patient emergencies 24
hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. The River Valley
Region...Evansville/Bloomington and Louisville, in 2011 had the privaledge of having 1,600
blood drive volunteer coordinators! Our BDC's (Blood Drive Coordinators) helped recruit
almost 80,000 donors resulting in over 125,000 pints of blood!! We have an incredible team
that helps save lives everyday!!
During the upcoming summer months, we have to prepare for a lowered supply of blood
and do our best to make sure that our hospitals have access to our high school and college
students (accounts for 20-30% of the nation's blood supply!) and regular donors are busy
and don't donate as frequently and the need goes up due to more travel and outdoor
activity.

The American Red Cross supplies to hospitals almost half of the nation's total
blood supply
Only 2-3% of eligible donors donate blood.
The need for blood is constant. It is a perishable product.
